This policy explains what personal information Stay Unique collects when you use stayunique.co.uk, book a stay at 'The Ope' in St Agnes, or get in touch with us, and what we do with it. Stay Unique is the data controller for this information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

What we collect

  • When you contact us: your name, email address, phone number and message, from the contact form, by email or by phone.
  • When you book: your name, email address, phone number, the dates of your stay, the number of guests and dogs, any messages you send us, and a record of what you paid. We never see or store your card details.
  • When you visit the website: our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical records, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the site and keep it secure.

How bookings work

Our website shows availability and prices. When you press "Book now", you continue on a secure checkout run by Hospitable, the booking system we use. Hospitable collects your details and payment on our behalf, and its payment provider handles your card. Hospitable also manages bookings made through Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com, so that we can run one calendar.

If you book through Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com instead, that platform collects your information under its own privacy policy, and passes us what we need to host your stay.

How we use your information

  • To take and manage your booking, including sending check-in details and helping during your stay. This is necessary for our contract with you.
  • To reply to your enquiries. This is in our legitimate interests, and yours.
  • To keep financial records and meet our tax and other legal obligations.
  • To keep the website and our bookings secure and prevent fraud. This is in our legitimate interests.

We do not sell your information, and we do not send you marketing unless you have asked us to.

Who we share it with

Only with companies that help us run the business, and only what they need:

  • Hospitable, which runs our bookings, payments and guest messages.
  • Netlify, which hosts this website and passes contact-form messages to us.
  • Microsoft, which provides our email.
  • Airbnb, Vrbo and Booking.com, if you booked through them.
  • Our accountant, and the authorities where the law requires it.

Some of these companies are based in, or store information in, the United States and other countries outside the UK. Where they do, they protect it with safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or standard contractual clauses.

Cookies

Our own pages on stayunique.co.uk do not set cookies or use analytics. Hospitable's checkout pages, which open when you press "Book now", may use cookies of their own. Hospitable's privacy policy explains them.

How long we keep it

  • Booking records: six years after your stay, as tax law requires.
  • Enquiries that don't lead to a booking: up to 12 months.
  • Website technical records: kept by our hosting provider for a short period, normally no more than 30 days.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct it, or to delete it where we no longer need it;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
  • ask us to send it to you or to someone else in a usable format.

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm who you are first.

Children

Bookings must be made by an adult. We do not knowingly collect information from children, except the number of children in a booking party.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if anything changes, and change the date at the top.
